PMIDC under the Department of Local Government, Punjab is committed towards delivering efficient and sustainable solutions to the cities and the residents through policy formulation, planning and designing accessibility and mobility solutions, such as E-mobility plans, public transport plans for city bus services, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems etc.

Rejuvenation of Auto Rickshaws in Amritsar through Holistic Interventions” (RAAHI)

The RAAHI project under the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate, and Sustain (CITIIS) programme was one of the 12 shortlisted from 67 potential projects by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The main objective is the project is to replace 7500 diesel autos with E-Autos. The old pollution diesel autos shall be scrapped, and the auto drivers will be provided with a new E-Auto with latest technology. The cost per auto is around Rs.3.10 lakhs. In order to enable the switch towards E-mobility, a subsidy of Rs.1,25,000/- per E-Auto is being provided to the beneficiaries.

Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in Amritsar

The Govt. of Punjab has proactively, implemented the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) system in Amritsar which is a completely access controlled system and carries about 40,000 daily passengers, with a modest investment of Rs.494.54crs. The project was full scale launched in Jan-2019 on 03 major routes covering 100km (to&fro) with 93nos of Standard size (12mtr) Diesel buses on Gross Cost Contract (GCC).

City Bus Services in Punjab

City Bus Service in Ludhiana: Apart from the BRTS System, the city bus service in running in the city of Ludhiana on Net Cost Contract (NCC). The buses were purchased under the JNNURM mission of Govt. of India. Currently 40 buses are plying on routes by the operator.

City Bus Service in Mohali & Amritsar: In order to continue to provide sustainable transport solutions with minimal carbon footprints, Govt. of Punjab seeks to introduce E-Buses at Outer ring road of the walled city at Amritsar which will be feeding the existing BRTS system and introducing City Bus Services (E-Bus) for Mohali Cluster (Kharar to Derabassi).

Comprehensive Mobility Plans (CMPs)

The Comprehensive Mobility plans are the vision documents to improve the traffic and transport solutions of the cities. The CMPs shall also guide the city administrations to identify priority projects to implement projects aiming towards providing seamless commuting experience to city dwellers.  PMIDC under Department of Local Government, Punjab is entrusted the task to update the CMPs of 07 major cities i.e. Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Patiala, Rajpura and SAS Nagar.
